Technology Lesson Plan

Technology Lesson Plan
For this assignment, I created a TPACK lesson plan. TPACK stands for technological, pedagogical and content knowledge. I created a lesson plan on any subject or grade level I wanted, regarding any standard. As pre-service teachers, creating our own lesson plan is critical practice and a crucial part of our education. The overall goal of the lesson plan was to apply what I had learned in CI201 lecture and lab, and put it into a lesson plan for students. I created a lesson plan which included a standard, learning objective, materials list, lesson procedures and assessments. I created materials that might be needed. I created a Powerpoint as my presentation of content to my students. I was also responsible for creating a student example of what the lesson plan was asking of students.
I chose a Social Studies lesson plan since we discussed this subject in class. It took me a while to determine which standard to use. I selected a geography standard involving where people live and how it affects society. I knew that I couldn't cover the entire standard in just one lesson, so I focused on where people live. I wanted to make this lesson relatable to my students, because I feel the more students can relate to something, the better they will understand the content. The next thing I determined was the type of technology to be implicated in the lesson. I wanted to use a new piece of technology that we had not discussed yet in class. I also decided that all of the students in my classroom had access to their own school-provided Chrome Book on which they would do their project. I then developed a lesson plan teaching the students about where they live. Since I chose the second grade as my target grade, it was important to focus the geography lesson specifically on where these students lived. For purposes of my own knowledge, I chose locations back home in Illinois. As a group, the students and I explored different places in sequential order. We started with their house, and then we expanded to their neighborhood, town, county, state, and finally country. I called this lesson, "Welcome to my World". After reviewing the Powerpoint with my students, I introduced the project/assessment that they would be working on, which was a video. The students would create their video by locating and taking screen shots of different geographical regions as was discussed in the Powerpoint presentation. Students were to not only locate relevant pictures, but also narrate their video as well.
ISTE STANDARD
This assignment fell under Standards 1C (promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes), Standard 2A (design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity), Standard 2B (develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress), and Standard 4B (address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources). My lesson plan represented standard 1 because I taught about specific places that were unique to the students in the classroom. The Powerpoint enhanced conceptual understanding and the thinking process. Standard 2 was represented by learning where the students and their families lived, which incorporated relevant content. I also incorporatedStandard 2 by utilizing several digital tools during the lesson plan. Google Earth is a big component of my lesson, which is a great, relevant educational tool. Lastly, Standard 4 was represented because the students were provided access to tools and resources. The project was diverse in the fact that student videos would be different since not all students in the classroom lived in the same town.
