Dot Day

LITTLE BIRD TALES
Little Bird Tales is a web-based program used by educators, where students use their creativity and imagination to create digital stories. The site allows students to bring their thoughts and ideas to life in their own unique way. Students not only create different pages and text to display their story, but they can also add voice narration. Little Bird Tales provides a resource for students to express their imagination.
For this assignment, we used the program to create a “dot day” video. Dot Day, which stems from a famous Dot Day book, is celebrated in many schools throughout the nation. It is a day for creativity and expressing oneself. I took part in Dot Day activities this year by creating a video where I found dots as I explored my surroundings. I found several dots and took pictures of them. Using a special application called “Quiver”, I was able to draw my own dot and bring it to life through 3-D animation. I combined all of my pictures into my Little Bird Tales storyboard. Once added, I recorded my narration telling my Dot Day adventure story. This was a great application to use, especially for literacy.
ISTE STANDARD
This assignment fell under Standard 5A (participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning). "Dot Day" is a global phenomenon that is taking the educational world by storm. By completing this activity, I participated in a local and global learning community. Since Dot Day is celebrated throughout the world, there are many different activities created to celebrate this day. The activity that I participated in explored a creative application, through the 3-D Quiver app, and then created a story using the Little Bird Tales program. It used technology to improve student learning.
